Shades of Summer Size:16 x 20When I briefly spotted this male Lazuli Bunting perched amidst a patch of lupine flowers, I instantly knew it was a scene I wanted to paint and share. So I combined these sightings in memory of a particularly delightful summer day

Although all belong to a single species and intermix on the wintering grounds

I never tire of watching these charcoal gray birds bob up and down on their pinkish legs

While the garden shrubs and flowers have lost nearly all their leaves and gone to seed

I included a Nevada bumblebee and a painted lady butterfly

Caribou in the Alaska Range on a winter night

No framing or hardware required

I then added the race name below each bird to help myself and others remember the plumage pattern of each race

The heron never seemed to notice me so I got a wonderful view of its beautiful plumage
