Following this opening melody, the work takes a harmonic turn to an unrelated major key where the mood changes from one of lost opportunities to a sense of warm nostalgia. A brief canonic interlude leads us back to the opening refrain and melody, now to conclude the musical

essentially ending the American War for Independence

but pretty much unknown today

arranged not in a scale pattern but mostly in thirds

leading to an even stronger statement of the original theme followed by a driving coda

and 4/4 time throughout
